Burundi - A Quick Look

Burundi, officially the Republic of Burundi, is a small country in the Great Lakes region of Eastern Africa bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the south and east, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. Burundi is one of the ten poorest countries in the world. Due to civil wars, Burundi has a low gross domestic product and an unstable population growth mainly because most of them opt to move to more developed countries in search of better opportunities.

PRAISE REPORT!!!!

Windermere Ministries’ Mission Trip To:

Rutana, Burundi – March 9 to 16, 2009

Windermere Ministries’ (WM) team went to Rutana, Burundi.  This was WM’s fourth short term mission trip to Burundi since 2008.

Windermere Ministries had a team of 9 that partnered with 5 others from Arizona and Texas, and 2 others from Tanzania to form a team of 16 ordinary people for this E3 Partners Missions Trip (www.e3partners.org).  We divided into 8 teams and worked with existing evangelical churches there in different areas.  The teams went door-to-door and using a translator shared their testimonies with the people at their homes and along the way. They then used an EvangeCube (www.simplysharejesus.comto show those they visited how they could have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

During our time in Burundi 1,712 people prayed to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and 8 new churches were planted.

The people were very open and discerning, and asked questions to ensure that what we were presenting was really the truth and biblical.  Apparently, some religious cults had been in the area before presenting false teachings.  After discerning that we were not promoting a religious cult, many wanted to know how they could have a personal relationship with God.  The new believers all wanted Bibles which are very hard to get in Burundi.  We were able to secure about 200 New Testaments and 50 Bibles in the Kirundi language.   These are the 9 persons that went on behalf of WM:

Mary Berryman

Ray Berryman

Manfred Dedekind

Rick Dye

Jeff Lutes

Jim Parker

Auzelio Santini

Gabriel Santini

Charlotte Whitacre

Thank you for joining with us on this mission through your prayer support.  God bless you abundantly.  We appreciate your prayers and we greatly appreciate you!

Testimonies from the Field

“As a result of the WM Team going to Burundi 1,675 people prayed to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and 6 new churches were planted. The people were very open and discerning, and asked questions to ensure that what we were presenting was really the truth and biblical. The new believers all wanted Bibles which are very hard to get in Burundi. We were able to secure 200 New Testaments and 50 Bibles in the Kirundi language. We are all rejoicing for the great work of transformation that God is doing in Africa.”  Ray Berryman — WM

“I cannot put into words the joy one receives when God works through them to further his kingdom and God had most certainly prepared the hearts of each Burundian we shared with. Day two every person we evangelized  prayed the prayer of eternal salvation. Day three began with my translator, pastor, and I evangelizing to 7 Muslim men. God provided me with the answers to each of their questions. Every turn of the Bible I found the perfect scripture to share. All 7 men prayed to receive Jesus Christ.  Praise God!  We journeyed to the next hut; all 7 new Christians accompanying us. As I shared the EvangeCube with a crowd, Ninette, my translator, became ill and had to excuse herself.  As I watched in awe, one of the 7 men took over and shared the EvangeCube and led all to repeat the prayer of salvation.  God is Awesome!”  Jeff Lutes - FBCW

“We got there on Wednesday and there was NO church – just a plot of land.  On our last day, there were some bamboos for walls.  I collected stones for the structure to be built. In the beginning there was no one there, but 3 days later there were almost 100 people there!  It was more than 30 hours in the plane, but that is nothing compared to the great experience that I had.” Gabe Santini, age 11

“From 0 - 100.  I am not speaking about a fast car! Our first day in the field was Wednesday.  After a short trip we were dropped off at “Top of the Mountains” we walked about a half mile and Pastor Jean Claude said: “Here is the church” pointed to a plot of land with nothing on it except for some vegetation.  So, we have ZERO people at the church when we arrived that Wednesday.  Friday, our last day in Rutana’s mission field, 3 days after we started evangelizing that region, God had brought about 100 people to the Assembly of God Church that just was planted at that plot of land to study His word.  Praise the Lord!  Auzelio Santini - FBCW

“During our breakfast Rick Dye, one of our team members, inquired about the possibility of having the Lord’s Supper at the Mission field. A few days before we traveled to Rutana, the Lord God had placed it on my heart that the Lord’s Supper was a way to witness and disciple his people. One hour later, Gabe and I, Pastor Jean Claude, and our translators were at our first house to share the Gospel that day.  I shared my testimony with a family of 4 that had a Catholic background, same as mine, and Gabe presented the Gospel using the Evangeball and they all accepted Christ.  As we were praying a few more people joined us.  I asked Pastor Jean Claude to present the Gospel and he did utilizing the EvangeCube.  As I was listening, I was reminded that I had a couple of morsels of bread in my backpack from our breakfast.  Next thing I remember, I was breaking bread and we shared water as the presentation of the blood of Christ with these new brothers and sisters in Christ.  It was a divine moment that I believe God orchestrated to bring His presence to His new sons and daughters.”  Auzelio Santini - FBCW

“Traveling with Gabe, my 11 year old son was never a concern to me, even when we were facing more than a 30 hours one way trip.  I could not imagine the joy that was to occur  to see Gabe sharing for his first time his faith and the salvation plan utilizing the EvangeCube with Francine Igirubunty, Belyse Akimana, and Aurelie Niyukuri. We woke up early in the morning and went to bed late and tired, we walked on Rutana’s trails together and saw 100’s of people accepting Christ together.  We visited African villages together and we had cold showers together and we read books together and we prayed together … we lived together.  That was great time to bond together.  Remember Francine, Belyse, and Aurelie that we spoke before? Well, Aurelie is my name with an R – do you think I will ever forget to pray for her and her friends?  I will remember those 3 girls for eternity.  God has such a sense of humor – don’t you believe so?” Auzelio Santini - FBCW

“After 3 wonderful and very rewarding days of God’s rich blessing and sharing the glorious message of eternal salvation thru Jesus, we came to our last hut, high on a beautiful mountain.  To our great joy 8 people prayed to receive Christ.  But our faithful good shepherd still had one precious lost sheep.  When this precious man came, we shared the gospel with him also.  This last lost soul was just very, very special.  He came into the Kingdom called by the Holy Spirit, at the very last moment.” Manfred J Dedekind – Aloma Baptist Church

“Before coming to Burundi a women who prayed for me had a vision seeing one eye being opened. On the airplane to Burundi my right eye began to bother me.  While disciplining on our last day in Mugungo, a young boy walked to us with his right eye closed.  When asked what was wrong with his eye, he said he was born that way.  I continued disciplining and then suddenly remembered the vision the woman had of the one eye being opened!  My translator and I anointed him with oil and began praying for him.  After we were done, his eye was the same and he took off running.  When the time came to leave, as we piled on the van, I spotted him waving goodbye with his eye ¾ open!  Praise God!  Later on that evening I noticed that my eye was healed too!  Praise God!” Charlotte Whitacre – Victory in Christ

“Standing in the presence of Our Lord Christ and witnessing 100+ young teens receive him and surrender their young lives to God is beyond my ability to fully describe.  Knowing well that this one act of obedience to the Father will change their hearts, turn one’s family, produce community leaders, influence the country of Burundi and transform Africa God’s way, is one of the greatest gifts He could ever bless my life with.  When God restores “He always multiplies” and being a smart part of his plan in Africa has brought restoration into my own life beyond measure!”  Rick Dye – First Presbyterian Church St. Pauls

Who We Are...

Windermere Ministries is a family of churches with a common purpose: to transform lives.

We feel the best process to do that is through our Purpose Statement:

Windermere Ministries exists to help people BELIEVE in God, BELONG to His family and to BECOME fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

Believe - We actively seek to transform people by introducing them into a relationship with Jesus Christ. We are involved in Home and Foreign Mission projects to help others understand and put their faith into God.

Belong - We feel the best way for a person to feel a part of something is to join an Adult Bible Fellowship Group. All of our adult, student and children ministries have a small group component to them where individuals are known and cared for in dynamic relationships. Members are transformed from being spectators to participants.

Become - We guide individuals into deepening relationship with God by encouraging leadership roles in ministry. A person's relationship with the church is solidified as they participate and strengthen our ministries and are actively involved in the transformation of others.
